Château Chenonceau
Château Chenonceau is rich in stories spanning centuries. Known as the 'Ladies Château' was acquired by the crown during the reign of Francis I, and was given by Henry II to his mistress, Diane de Poitiers. After his death, Queen Catherine de’ Medici took over, ruling from the Green Room. She bequeathed the château to her daughter-in-law Louise of Lorraine who shut herself away in it when her husband King Henry III was assassinated. Saved during the French Revolution by Louise Dupin, Chenonceau was restored in popular opinion by hosting a literary salon during the Enlightenment. The château has served as a refuge, a World War I hospital, and a passage to freedom during World War II,
symbolizing resilience and transformation.
Don't miss....
The beautiful flower arrangements in the rooms, crafted by the château's private florist, bring the space to life, making it feel warm and inviting. Each bouquet adds a touch of elegance and charm, enhancing the overall ambiance of the house. For over 20 years, the château has been home to a Floral Workshop that is unique in France. Two flower experts are in charge of the one-hectare flower garden every day of the year. The head florist holds the title of “Meilleur Ouvrier de France”
The Maze : the Italian maze desired by Catherine de’ Medici is planted with 2,000 yew trees and covers more than a hectare.

The Apothecary : In a room located at the end of the Dômes building, a collection of nearly 300 pots, apothecary objects and paintings. Immerse yourself in the mystery of medicinal plants, tinctures, the storage, preservation, and distribution of botanically-based remedies and the Queen's interest in the trained apothecary and leading scientist of the day, Michel de Nostredame, known as Nostradamus.

The Science Room : for astrology and science. Located in the Bâtiment des Dômes, the Cabinet des Sciences presents an exceptional collection of scientific instruments from the 18th century, used by Rousseau, and witnesses to the excitement of the Age of Enlightenment in Chenonceau. Interesting video of Louise Dupin, once lady of the château.

The Flower Garden : The Flower Garden is an unmissable part of your visit. Located in the farm village in the Chenonceau estate and organised into twelve squares bordered by apple trees and Queen Elisabeth rose bushes. It covers more than a hectare, the estate gardeners cultivate here around one hundred varieties of “cutting flowers” needed for the château’s floral arrangements. There are a collection of more than 400 roses, numerous varieties of vegetables and plants, and stunning flowers such as tuberoses and agapanthus. Two old greenhouses are dedicated to the cultivation of hyacinth, amaryllis, narcissus, and tulip bulbs, and to the planting of seedlings.
The birds and other animals in the Park enjoy the proximity of the donkey enclosure, which is nearby.
